Gamasutra just reported today that Halo 3: ODST (which has you playing as an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper rather than Master Chief) is currently the most anticipated game following a study conducted post-E3. Apparently, the downloadable add-on is eight times more anticipated than the "average" game included in the survey.

The survey was conducted by OTX's GamePlan Insights, which conducts ratings surveys such as these. The average game receieves a Purchase Intent Index score of 100, and Halo 3: ODST scored a whopping 828. Prior to E3, the game add-on had rated at 629. Super Mario Bros. Wii, which made its debut at E3, is around 300 points behind Halo 3: ODST and God of War 2 was rated very close to the Italian plumber.

It's interesting that these are all first-party titles for each of the Big Three consoles. This survey can act as a piece of evidence that exclusive content is vitally important to any console's health.

The same survey tracks consumers' intent to preorder a game; Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 leads that category, with Starcraft II close behind. Gamasutra extrapolates that these are in the top position because of Modern Warfare 2's likely long shelf-life thanks to its multiplayer element, and Starcraft II's 300 year development cycle.
