... well, the codes to download them, at least. In North America, at least, you can now purchase codes that will permit you to download Xbox Live Arcade games. You can enter the codes into your Xbox and then download the game.

While physical retailers have offered codes for purchase in the past, this is one of the first ways to purchase a game code online, without a physical card revealing the code. While this probably won't overtake Live Arcade purchases made on Xbox, it definitely will open some possibilities for people who, for one reason or another, may have had reservations about puchasing through the Xbox itself. For example, anyone with an Amazon gift card will now be able to add an Arcade game to their Xbox.

From the official press release:

“PC gamers have enjoyed the convenience of digital downloads on Amazon.com for some time. Now Amazon.com and Microsoft are bringing that same level of convenience to platform gamers by expanding the reach of the Xbox LIVE digital platform to millions of Amazon customers,” said Greg Hart, vice president of Video Games and Software for Amazon.com. “This is an exciting day for Amazon.com customers, and we will continue to drive innovation that will provide our customers with the widest selection of video game platform downloads.”

Amazon will most likely offer this service soon to its other major regions, including Europe.
