Apparently, video gamers didn't get the memo that we're supposed to be spending less money during a recession, rather than more. NPD Group, which measures video game data like this, found that sales in the U.S. were up 10 percent for November, or a total of $2.91 billion. Sales for the year now total $16.04 billion, which is up 22 percent from last year.

If you think about that, it's actually pretty amazing, considering overall retail sales in the U.S. for November fell 7.4 percent from last year.

Nintendo raked in the dough this month, selling 2.04 million Wiis and 1.57 million DS units. The Xbox 360 sold 836K units, mostly fueled by the awesome success of Gears of War 2, which was the top selling game for the month, with 1.56 million copies sold.

The news is good in the U.K. as well, too, with 58 percent of games retailers in the U.K. planning for increased sales over the Christmas 2007 season.
