Independent European developer Blade Interactive announced today that its flagship title Hydrophobia will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in March 2009. There hadn't been a firm date set, but many expected late this year.

Hydrophobia will be a survival-adventure game that places players in the soaking wet shoes of Kate Wilson, who has to stop a terrorist attack on the enormous cruise ship on which she is a security detail. It's the mid-21st century and water levels have risen so high that the world is plunged into chaos. This cruise ship, "The Queen of the World," is a luxurious haven for those who have the money, and that's why it's the target of the Malthusian terrorists, who appear to be fighting to prove that Thomas Malthus was right in stating that population growth will one day outpace agricultural production. (Uh, duh.) The game will basically serve as a gorgeous demonstration of Blade's new water technology, which promises to deliver realistic physics and beautiful effects as ocean water is sloshing around inside the ship.
