*Oh shit, what about those people who got that Xbox model without a hard drive?
As mentioned, Microsoft has been planning how to deal with the upcoming Dashboard update's immense size (it needs 128 MB). And it seems that today they've decided how to do it. If you've bought a system that does not have the proper storage (i.e. does not have a hard drive, which would mean Core or Arcade units), you'll have the option of either a free 512 MB memory card, or a 20 GB hard drive that's been discounted to $20. Poster miyagi on Joystiq says that these two options are only available for Core owners, and that Arcade owners can possibly get a 20 GB hard drive plus 3 months of Xbox Live Gold for $30, but this has not been officially confirmed. See the official Microsoft page here. (Also note that the page acts as if the update is already available: "If you have 128MB of available space, what are you waiting for? You’re ready to connect to the new Xbox experience!"
Uhh... It's not November 19 yet, guys...
